Sergeant Paul Scicluna

Rotary Club of Unley President Joan Reed presenting the award to Sergeant Paul Scicluna

Congratulations to Sergeant Paul Scicluna, who was named as the South Australian Police Officer of the Year (2014) at an award ceremony held in the Soldiers Memorial Gardens on 20 May 2015.

The SA Police Band played splendidly (you can purchase their music on iTunes!) and the sun shone brightly.

Community leader, White Ribbon Ambassador, campaigner against cyber bullying and father-of-three, Sergeant Scicluna is based at Mt Gambier in the Limestone Coast Local Service Area. He arrived in the Limestone Coast in 2000 working in general patrols for three years before moving to the police prosecutions area.

In 2009 he moved to the Crime Prevention team, which he now manages, and also has leadership of the Limestone Coast Drug Action Team which is a multilateral community partnership. Recently he was involved in the organisation of a community forum called "Understanding the Ice Factor" which was attended by more than 600 people and has since been screened at forums in a number of smaller towns surrounding Mt Gambier.

His nomination for Police Officer of the Year noted that over the last 12 months, while he has been leading the Drug Action Team, there has been increased community awareness of drug issues, trends and services.

Sergeant Scicluna is credited with leading significant changes in the community, building strong relationships and being involved in successful neighbourhood regeneration projects. He also organises the local Blue Light events, recognising that boredom can play a role in the decision young people make and potentially interrupt their healthy development.
